Daily domainer points to an interesting verisign Domain Industry Brief which contains some interesting information:

  • In 2006, 76% of expiring domains were renewed by their owners.
  • 63% of all .com and .net domains resolve to live websites, 23% are
parked (this includes PPC domains and websites under construction) and
the remaining 14% do not have a website of any kind.

Read the rest here.

Alarmclock points us to the latest venture funding of a domain name company:

Among the treasure trove of domains owned by Internet Reit are its more
than 30 addresses that are misspellings of Google, including
Googlb.com. The company then gets paid by Google for running Adsense on
these domains. All told, it owns 400K domain names and a growing number
of overseas addresses

Also very interesting was the "domain tasting" article at Daily Domainer, which provides a nice background on the processes involved in a domain name operation.
