While everyone is talking about Andreessen’s new venture fund, I’ll talk about highlight some of the other things he mentioned on Charlie Rose.
He spent some time talking about Andrew Chen’s ideas on running analytical marketing campaigns before the product exists. He likened it to some authors putting ads in literary magazines and then writing a book after they’ve sold 600 copies.
Some other things he discussed:
-How Silicon Valley works in cycles, and giving the example of how the core engineering team at Nvidia are were the core engineers from Silicon Graphics.
-His New York Times Deathwatch. (He says he’s quit this, since he felt it was no longer fair to keep going with it)
-Explained how Microsoft bought his code from NCSA UIUC to create Internet Explorer. (He explained that in IE, when you go to Help/About, it gives credit to NCSA, so he takes credit for both IE and Firefox)
