Twitter sees lucrative opportunities in search, albeit a different kind of search than what Google offers, and, as co-founder Biz Stone told Ad Age recently, “we’ll certainly be exploring those.”
The article expands on real time search and performing crowdsourced queries similar to something like Mahalo answers but at an unprecedented scale and speed.
Certainly there’s an AdWords-like business there, but, as Mr. Chaffee told us, Twitter has another “wild card.”
There’s something there, but it doesn’t look like it will be AdWords-like. Some of their challenge overlaps with Facebook’s so compare it to the interation those guys have gone through. There is very much a pioneering cost here in and in that regard, Twitter benefits from the resources that Facebook is spending on cracking this nut.
