Here’s an article from AllThingsD.com about spending money on TV ads to build brand awareness and traffic on the mobile and desktop properties.  You can say a lot of different things about the trend of internet and mobile companies advertising on TV but I think the biggest is that this is huge validation for TV advertising.  There are benefits that television commercials provide that you can’t get via online channels.

Slightly ahead of the holidays, a handful of venture-backed companies have announced TV advertising campaigns, including One Kings Lane, Fab.com, OpenSky, Gilt Groupe and Wayfair.

All of the companies are hoping to see a lift in sales and increased brand awareness, but the immediate beneficiaries of this trend will clearly be TV networks that have strong female demographics, like Bravo, the Food Network, HGTV, E!
