The smart money is doubling down on emerging markets

So says Sarah Lacy.  But investing in emerging markets is fraught with risks and there some VCs who feel that you need an ecosystem (such as the one in Silicon Valley) to really get the model to scale.

But what I wonder is how much the smart money really understands the macro risks. For example, the frail state of trade and globalization really has some economists worried.  And does anyone really know whether emerging markets will get better before developed markets?  You stack those up and you get a lot more risk on top of the typical risks you see in venture.
